MAPPORT
With shrinking IT budgets and the retiring of mainframes specialists, it makes economic and strategic sense to migrate to less expensive and more open hardware and software platforms.

MAPPORT is a standardized BIS portation service offering from ITRS that significantly reduces the time, cost, and risk associated with migrating BIS systems between various operating environments including Windows, Unix and Linux, whether on physical or virtual servers.

The solution was developed by ITRS and includes an array of tools, methodologies, and best practice templates specific to BIS. MAPPORT uses preconfigured processes developed by ITRS which leverage configuration scripts, documentation, procedures, training materials, portation methodology, and technical documentation developed on previous BIS portation projects over the last 2 decades.

If you have a lot of COBOL programs, whether on-line or batch, MAPPORT has tools to migrate the programs, ECL and data to Fujitsu NetCOBOL on Windows, Unix or Linux. If you only have a few COBOL and/or RPG programs and you want to make your life easier, we can rewrite them in BIS just as we have for other clients.

The MAPPORT migration process is split into two phases to help reduce cost, time and risk:

-
MAPPORT Inventory
-
This is free, no obligation service
-
The MAPPORT inventory tool identifies the number of runs and the incompatible run statements, the size of the database and all the interfaces to other BIS sites, to the OS, with other databases, etc
-
ITRS will take these results to accurately size the portation effort
-

-
MAPPORT Portation
-
One of the most important steps in the portation is planning on how to handle all the interfaces to other BIS sites, to the OS, with other databases, etc. ITRS can then work with you on creating subroutines to replace the BIS interface statements
-
MAPPORT provides highly automated tools for:
-
Transferring and reformatting registration tables for Runs, Users, Drawers, Named Reports, Terminals, etc
-
Transferring BIS data, relocating it to different cabinets if necessary and verifying the quality of the transfer
-
Transferring all the BIS run code into a repository so that before and after images of all changes can be retained
-
Modifying the incompatible BIS run statements and replacing the interface statements with the subroutine calls. A migration analyst can process over 300 runs per hour with the MAPPORT tools
-
-
Unit and System testing is performed the client staff who understand their own applications. Testing can usually begin by the second week of the project
-
Every MAPPORT project includes the necessary Systems, Operations, Coordinator, Developer and User training to hit the ground running in your new environment
-
When everything is ready, we will be there with you during the final cutover and will monitor the system for a few days
